Google Analytics

When someone visits https://archive.ukho.gov.uk/ we use a third party service, Google Analytics, to collect standard internet log information and details of visitor behaviour patterns. We do this to find out things such as the number of visitors to the various parts of the site. This information is only processed in a way which does not identify anyone. We do not make, and do not allow Google to make, any attempt to find out the identities of those visiting our website. Google’s privacy policy can be viewed here.

The only (potentially) sensitive data point that Google Analytics routinely processes is an IP Address. IP Address are generally anonymous but can, in certain circumstances, be traced back to an individual. We have chosen to instruct Google Analytics to not store the last few numbers of each IP Address held. This allows us to see a rough indication of your location, but ensures that the IP Address used is anonymised. Technical details about this anonymisation can be found at https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/2763052

Google Analytics is used by the vast majority of websites. If you wish to opt out of Google Analytics, then the most effective way is to install a browser add-on. See here for more information.

Google Analytics information may be stored on US servers, where the transfer is governed by the EU-US Privacy Shield (see here)
